# Extended Payment Initiation Service

Regulated payment initiation covers what the directive requires and nothing more. Extended payment initiation is where your platform competes: payment types beyond the mandate, richer instruction data, and terms set per third party rather than terms set by a regulator.

The demand is mostly corporate. A business paying suppliers, a marketplace paying out to sellers, or software reconciling thousands of payments a day needs more structure in an instruction and better feedback on its progress than the regulatory service offers — and will pay for both. Because these payments use the same consent model as the regulatory ones, they appear in the same oversight, and a customer withdrawing access withdraws it everywhere. That is considerably cheaper than discovering later that a premium payment service sits outside the picture.

The reference below is generated from the Berlin Group **openFinance API Framework — Extended Payment Initiation Service, version 2.2**. Its defining idea is that authorization and initiation come apart: a payment can be authorized, limit-checked and secured now, then actually initiated later — which is what the `initiations` sub-resources below are for.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://doc.api.tieto.com/api-references/openfinance/extended-payment-initiation-service.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
